FAQs

Q?What if I am not flexible?
A.

Flexibility is your birthright.  We are all born flexible, but it’s life that has tightened us up. Years of playing sports, driving cars and sitting at desks have made our muscles stiff. Yoga, with or without heat, will allow you to stretch safely to your maximum capabilities.  You will be amazed how quickly you will gain mobility through Yoga.  So don’t worry if you’re not flexible today, you were once flexible and you will be again.

Q?How often should I come to class?
A.

As much as you can. For classes done in our heated studio, it is especially important for beginners to allow one’s body to acclimate to the heat and to learn the postures.  Of course, it is a time commitment, and we all have lives outside of the studio, so come as much as you can.  Even if it is only one day a week, you are still getting the benefits of Yoga.

Q?What about my cardio?
A.

You will be amazed at the cardiovascular workout involved in a each class. Classes that are performed in our heated studio or at a quick pace will bring your heart rate up for quick burst with short breaks in between, think interval training, but with a relaxed mind.

Q?Can I lose weight?
A.

Absolutely. Our yoga classes are designed to bring your body to where it should be naturally.  With frequency, hard work and patience you will find that you have gained muscle tone and strength to give your body definition.  But remember, all of those outside benefits are just a reflection of the amazing benefits happening on the inside. You will work bones to skin, fingertip to toes.

Q?Is the routine the same every class?
A.

All Bikram classes will follow the same sequence.  However, the body and mind are always different so the postures, and their order, doesn’t ever get boring. Bikram Yoga scientifically designed the series so that one posture opens a specific area of the body in preparation for the next posture. By practicing the same order every class you will be able to mark your improvement. Remember, this is a lifetime practice that can always improve, deepen and advance! Our Hatha, Vinyasa and Pilates classes will not follow the same routine each class.

Q?Why the heat?
A.

The heat is your friend in Bikram Yoga! The studio is heated to an average temperature of 105+ degrees to help each student achieve their goals of increased flexibility, detoxification and mental clarity. Cold, stiff muscles have limited range of motion. When the room is warm, so are your muscles. Warm muscles are more receptive to transformation enabling you to get a deeper stretch. Other benefits of the heat include: body detoxification (a full body facial), blood thinning to clear the circulatory system, increased heart rate for a better cardiovascular workout, and improved strength by putting muscle tissue in optimal state for reorganization.

Warm bodies are much more flexible which dramatically decreases the chance of injury. Using heat enables students to maximize each class by getting deeper into each posture. The result for each student is breakthrough levels of flexibility, strength, and balance.

Q?Do you have separate classes for beginners?
A.

No, all classes are open to all levels, beginners and advanced students alike.  Having seasoned practitioners in class will be helpful to you, use them as a resource!  Remember we all had a day one, we have to start somewhere.

Q?What should I wear/bring to class?
A.

If you are practicing in the hot room remember the space will be heated and the class will be a vigorous.  You will want to wear something comfortable that will allow you skin to breath.

Women:  tight fitting shorts or capris with a sports bra or tank top.

Men: close fitting shorts or swimming trunks.  T-shirts are optional.

For class you will need a mat, a towel and water.  For your convenience we will have mats and towels to rent and bottled water for sale.  If you have your own please feel free to bring your favorite yoga mat, towel and water bottle.

Q?What about eating before class?
A.

While everyone’s body is different, it is best to avoid eating too much and too close to the beginning of class.  Best practice would be to avoid eating two hours before class starts.  Please remember Yoga requires energy, so be sure to nourish yourself.

Q?How hydrated should I be before class?
A.

Very hydrated!  Once you have made up your mind to start yoga, you should become best friends with your water bottle. Class will be easier and you will feel cooler if you are well hydrated.  Water is available for purchase at the studio.
